2nd year of the Covid 19 Pandemic. Still no end in sight. Wow. But I watched some good films....
The best director discovery this year for me was Carlos Saura and his collaborations with his partner Geraldine Chaplin and I'd like to watch more of their collabs in the near future. I'd like to see more Rohmer as well.
Found classics like Billy Wilder's Apartment and Ozu's An Autumn Afternoon way too old fashioned and botherline offensive, but 80s and 90s offerings like Breaking Glass, Moving, Deep Cover and Chameleon Street very satisfying and intriguing. Should revisit 80s and 90s cinema more often.
So here are 10 Discoveries in alphabetical order.
Attenberg (2010) - Tsangari
Breaking Glass (1980) - Gibson
Chameleon Street (1989) - Harris Jr.
La Collectionneuse (1967) - Rohmer
Deep Cover (1992) - Duke
Moving (1993) - Sômai
Peppermint Frappé (1967) - Saura
Rocco e i suoi fratelli/Rocco and His Brothers (1960) - Visconti
Shanghai Express (1932) - Sternberg
Viaggio in Italia (1955) - Rossellini
